Cathedrale Restaurant at Aria to Close
A high end restaurant, Cathedrale, will close permanently at Aria on May 31, 2025.
Cathedrale, usually with an accent mark over the second “e,” opened on May 1, 2023.
Two years. You’re damned right it’s awkward. An unfortunate and public $30 million fail for Tao Group Hospitality, the company operating the venue.

The French-Mediterranean Cathedrale at Aria was best known for its interior design, “ingredient-driven menu” (is there another kind?) and the fact we have never met anyone who has dined at Cathedrale.
We have a vague memory of Britney Spears getting into a kerfuffle there.
Cathedrale was in the space previously occupied by Sage.
The restaurant featured a ceiling installation called “The Oculus,” created by Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi. Here’s more.

You can take a 3-D tour of Cathedrale online. It’s glorious and we hope they’ll keep this walkthrough live even after the restaurant closes.

What happened at Cathedrale? Well, the first rule of Las Vegas restaurants is successful Las Vegas restaurants don’t close.
Business levels have been hit in Las Vegas, and hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to why this venue is shuttering.
As an example, Jason Strauss, co-CEO of Tao Group Hospitality, gave an interview to the Hollywood Reporter when the restaurant opened. The story says, “In contrast to a long-held Las Vegas theory that passersby need to see into the restaurant in order to decide whether they want to patronize it, Strauss holds firm in his belief to enclose his venues completely.”
Even the most successful people in their realm of expertise get it wrong. Except bloggers, who are infallible.

Strauss told the Hollywood Reporter, “We want to control the environment, the lighting, the sound and take the guests into an immersive experience. When you’re open to the casino floor, you compromise a lot of that. We also think that our menu, food, service and experience stand alone as a destination.”
The best-laid plans, as the kids say.
No replacement for Cathedrale has been announced to-date.
Have no fear, Las Vegas always makes more.
