St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching, with the annual festivities set for next Tuesday, March 17. A survey ranks the best cities to revel the holiday, which commemorates the death of St. Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland, and among the top destinations might come as a surprise.

Personal finance website WalletHub says Americans will $7 billion on St. Patrick’s Day in 2026. Many cities have celebrated traditions, from Chicago dyeing the Chicago River green to New York City’s historic St. Patrick’s Day Parade. WalletHub, however, says this Nevada city is a more desirable place to celebrate all things Irish.
Reno Ranks High
Reno, “The Biggest Little City in the World,” was a highly ranked surprise on the WalletHub Best Cities for St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations. The Nevada city that’s home to numerous casinos ranked No. 2 on the March 17 holiday list.
Reno scored high marks for its St. Patrick’s Day traditions, cost of celebrations, and safety and accessibility. The city’s typically clear and mild weather also didn’t hurt. Only Boston outranked Reno on the best places to go for St. Patty’s.
Reno comes to life with vibrant traditions and events for everyone to enjoy. The Reno Leprechaun Crawl, a fun downtown bar crawl featuring themed events and drink deals, and the Annual Leprechaun Race 5K, a family-friendly race where runners dress in their best St. Paddy’s garb, are some of its highlights,” the WalletHub study explained.
Reno has the 21st-most Irish pubs per capita in the US. And those watering holes serve up some of the cheaper pints in the country. Some notable Irish pubs include Ceol Irish Pub, Shenanigan’s, and Ole Bridge.
More than 31 million Americans claim Irish ancestry, making Irish one of the largest ancestry groups in the country. St. Patrick’s Day didn’t originate in Ireland but in North America when colonies first observed the patron saint’s death many centuries ago.
While major St. Patrick’s Day celebrations began in North America, the holiday has since grown in popularity in Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day is now a national holiday in Ireland, with banks, schools, and many businesses closed. Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade regularly attracts more than 500,000 spectators.
