Roulette is one of the most popular casino table games because it is extremely simple. You don’t have to sit around waiting for something to happen like you do when playing craps, and you do not have to memorize a strategy grid like you do when playing blackjack. The Roulette Table

The roulette table consists of two general parts. The first one that we will talk about is the roulette wheel. This is the iconic spinning wheel with colored pockets. All roulette wheels have pockets numbered from one to thirty six (in red and black) and a green pocket labeled “0”. Additionally, American roulette utilizes a “00” pocket while European wheels do not. There is a thin track that sits above the wheel and, when the croupier is ready, he or she will send a small metal ball in motion around this track. As it begins to slow down, it will fall from the track and land in one of the wheel’s pockets. This is what ultimately determines who wins and who loses. Note that players do not have access to the wheel.

The other part of the table is called the layout. This accounts for well over half of the table and, from a player’s perspective, it is the only part that matters. The layout is a grid design which is printed out on the felt, and each part of it signifies a different bet. So, naturally, this is where you make your wagers. At a quick glance, this might seem like a complicated thing to understand, but it is actually quite self-explanatory. In the middle, you will find the inside bets. This is where you go to bet on specific numbers. Around this, you will see the outside bets – things like red/black, even/odd, and high/low.

How To Play Roulette

So to play, first you decide what your limits are, and then you select a table. If you are playing in a brick-and-mortar casino, you may have to exchange you cash or casino chips for special roulette chips. The croupier will decide how much these are worth, and you will be the only player on the layout using that color of chips. Online, you can just sit down and make a bet. While it’s best to understand how all of the roulette bets work, you can get away with choosing randomly because nearly all roulette bets are the same statistically. Just stay away from the First Five bet – as this is the only sucker bet in the game.

As everyone starts to make their wagers, the croupier will get things started by sending the ball spinning around the wheel. This is your cue to quickly finish making any bets, because after the ball has completed a few laps around the wheel the dealer will say “No more bets.” After that, you cannot change anything on the layout and all you can do is wait and see where the ball lands. The croupier is responsible for making payouts and collecting losing bets.
