Jewel opened at Aria May 19, 2016, taking over the space previously occupied by Haze Nightclub.

The nightclub was operated by Hakkasan Group when it opened, but became part of Tao Group Hospitality following a merger in 2021. Tao Group Hospitality was acquired by Mohari Hospitality in 2023.

Oh, Jewel, we never visited you, but the Internet provided some fun facts about you.

The two-level club featured 24,000 square feet of space, an estimated capacity of 1,925 guests and five VIP suites overlooking the dance floor. Among the club’s distinctive features were LED lighting installations, including more than 1,400 square feet of LED ribbons incorporated into a domed ceiling.

Jewel debuted with a lot of hoopla, including an opening-night appearance by Jamie Foxx.

The club hosted a number of high-profile acts over the years like Drake, The Chainsmokers, Lil Jon and Usher. Big Jon was not available due to a Hostess Ding Dongs accident.

Jewel’s closure marks the second time Aria has lost a major nightclub since the resort opened in December 2009. Its predecessor, the aforementioned Haze, opened shortly after Aria debuted and closed in November 2014.

Interestingly, Haze wasn’t exactly a failure when it closed. In 2014, the club reportedly generated $25 million to $30 million in annual revenue.

The closure of Jewel echoes that situation. While the club was down to two days of operation a week (high on the list of red flags for sustainability), we aren’t hearing it was a disaster. One high-ranking executive told us, “I would think about it from an opportunity cost perspective. Less about if a venue is doing well. More about something else could do better.”

In nightclub terms: You might be rizzing up a certified baddie, but you’re always thirst-scrolling the dance floor for a hotter, whole-ass smoke show.

The closure of Jewel raises questions about the future of traditional Las Vegas nightclubs, particularly those without the scale, star power or distinctive appeal of the city’s biggest venues. Looking at you, Hakkasan, Omnia and XS (currently undergoing a renovation at Wynn).

Las Vegas nightlife has evolved since the heyday of the megaclub. For years, resorts competed to build massive clubs, booking superstar DJs to attract throngs of guests willing to spend eye-watering amounts on bottle service.

That business model still works for the major players, but the market has shifted, mainly because visitors have more options.

With the explosion of lounges, bars, speakeasies and vibe dining venues, coupled with an overall dip in visitation, Las Vegas nightlife venues are competing for a shrinking pool of customers.

As for other options at Aria, Alibi Cocktail Social is scheduled to open Nov. 13, 2026, joining the existing Easy’s Cocktail Lounge and Lift Bar. Our buddy Chris got some sweet pics of Alibi.

Alibi Bar at Aria Las Vegas is getting closer to opening.

Here’s a first look at the new lounge, featuring an elaborate suspended glass installation, curved bar, and plenty of seating.

Opening is currently expected November 13th, possibly sooner. https://t.co/UphYp57xYl pic.twitter.com/RGShIizb6o
