She&#8217;s been all over Oyo&#8217;s fake hotel scam from day one.<\/p>\n<p>We heard from Seth Schorr, CEO and co-founder of Fifth Street Gaming, who confirmed the company intended to take over casino operations at Oyo pending the usual regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth Street is the same company that operates Ojos Locos Sports Cantina y Casino at Hotel Jefe in north Las Vegas <a href=\"https:\/\/fifthstreetgaming.com\/portfolio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and other venues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company was founded in 2010 by Schorr and Jeffrey Fine.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth Street Gaming has stayed the course at Downtown Grand despite its many tribulations. Downtown Grand is in receivership, and recently got yet another possible buyer, Vegas Ventures, whoever that might be. Don&#8217;t hold your breath. There have been lots of suitors, but they&#8217;ve all bailed once in due diligence.\u00a0Fifth Street says it plans to operate the casino at Downtown Grand for the foreseeable future, even if the casino changes hands.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth Street has some serious challenges ahead with Oyo, even with a potential MLB ballpark being built next door. The project is a billion dollars short of funding, but don&#8217;t get us started.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth Street&#8217;s CEO Seth Schorr has had some challenges of his own. He was named in a <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/five-class-action-lawsuits-online-sweepstakes-casinos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">class-action lawsuit<\/a> accusing his company, JefeBet, of illegal gambling. JefeBet was accused of being an &#8220;illegal online casino masquerading as a sweepstakes operation.&#8221; In addition, the Illinois Gaming Board sent JefeBet a cease-and-desist letter. The regulator said it had observed JefeBet allowing Illinois residents to play slots and table games for cash, gift cards or other prizes and concluded JefeBet was operating an illegal online casino without an Illinois gaming license.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting there&#8217;s no evidence that the Nevada Gaming Control Board has disciplined Schorr, opened a public complaint against him or taken licensing action over JefeBet.<\/p>\n<p>Seth Schorr&#8217;s father was Marc Schorr, one of Steve Wynn&#8217;s longtime senior executives.<\/p>\n<p>The casino Schorr and his company are taking over, Oyo, is owned by an Indian company, Prism.<\/p>\n<p>Oyo&#8217;s colorful history includes Oyo corporate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/vitalvegas\/highgate-hotels-booted-from-oyo-over-security-incident-smidge-of-chaos-ensues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">booting out<\/a> the hotel&#8217;s former operator, Highgate Hotels, following a cybersecurity incident. Yes, we broke that story, but we don&#8217;t like to brag. Probably.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been all downhill from there. Longtime employees have jumped ship, and management is happening long distance, a recipe for lots of WTF.<\/p>\n<p>Can Fifth Street Gaming turn around Oyo&#8217;s fortunes? No, of course not. The owners are boobs.<\/p>\n<p>They buy cheap buildings and slap the Oyo logo on them. And sometimes Palette or Collection O if the A.I. guy is working that day.<\/p>\n<p>Props to Paragon for showing itself out amidst some really poor judgment exhibited by Oyo&#8217;s ownership and management. And we aren&#8217;t just talking about the recent brouhaha. We&#8217;d wager this was the straw that broke the camel&#8217;s back.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth Street Gaming is going to have its hands full.
