Boxing champ and convicted rapist Mike Tyson is getting his own attraction at Flamingo Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Like many, we have mixed feelings about a shrine to someone whose past includes some genuinely horrific behavior, but we’re sharing it because we’re just such a huge fan of a sport where people bash each other’s faces in.<\/p>\n

This new attraction is touted as “the world’s first officially licensed immersive experience dedicated to the life, boxing career and legacy of Mike Tyson.” It opens at Flamingo in the fall of 2026.<\/p>\n

“Iron Mike Legacy” is billed as a “next-generation, multi-sensory phygital attraction that immerses visitors in the triumphs, challenges, mindset and transformation of one of the most iconic figures in sports history through augmented reality, virtual reality, holograms and projection mapping technologies.”<\/p>\n

Where to begin.<\/p>\n

Things aren’t “most iconic.” They’re either iconic or they aren’t. Mike Tyson probably qualifies.<\/p>\n

Next up, it appears they invented new gobbledygook just for this attraction, so you know it’s important: “phygital.” It’s a blend of the words “physical” and “digital.” We, too, have invented a word: “dullshit.” It’s a blend of “dumb” and “bullshit.” And possibly also “dull.”<\/p>\n

According to the official Web site<\/a>, the Mike Tyson attraction will feature seven rooms equipped with “VR, AR, holograms, projection mapping and spatial audio.”<\/p>\n

Let’s just say that while the attraction is going to cost a pretty penny, the company producing it has spent roughly $18 on copywriting: “From his early rise to his greatest fights and lasting legacy, Iron Mike Legacy delivers a one-of-a-kind immersive experience unlike anything else in Las Vegas.”<\/p>\n

Let’s get this straight. It’s both “one-of-a-kind” AND there’s nothing else like it? Incredible!<\/p>\n

The seven rooms include “Iron Mind,” “Iron Tunnel,” “Iron Ring,” “Iron Simulation,” “Iron Beginnings,” “Iron Making” and “Iron Sanctuary.”<\/p>\n

The room where Tyson bites off the ear of Evander Holyfield was apparently left out of the plans. They could’ve called it “Iron Dickishness.”<\/p>\n

Ticket prices start at $59 in the afternoon to $79 in the evening. Kids are $29.50.<\/p>\n

The experience is expected to last 60-90 minutes, or about the amount of time Tyson was given for raping Desiree Washington in Indianapolis in 1992. (He was paroled after three years.)<\/p>\n

The only real reason this attraction is news is it means Caesars Entertainment will get some rent during the 6-9 months the attraction is in operation before it closes.<\/p>\n

Caesars needed something to move into the massive space left by its shuttered buffet. Video recently made the rounds of demolition happening in the space once occupied by the Strip resort’s Paradise Garden Buffet.<\/p>\n

A Tyson attraction is an odd choice for a company that’s readying for a sale to Tilman Fertitta. What if Fertitta has no stomach for the stench of this? It’s not like any of Fertitta’s friends have been accused of sexual misdeeds, we said sarcastically.<\/p>\n

Caesars should’ve taken New Zealand’s lead<\/a>. They once denied Tyson a visa due to his rape conviction. “Would-be visitors to Australia normally must pass a character test.” Las Vegas casinos aren’t as picky.<\/p>\n

Las Vegas decision-makers are easily bamboozled by fame or wealth, as we recently discussed in our story<\/a> about Steve Wynn being invited by the Neon Museum to speak at Golden Nugget. The cringes just keep on coming.<\/p>\n

Tyson has done a great job at rehabilitating his image. He likes pigeons and had a great cameo in “The Hangover” and “The Hangover Part II.”<\/p>\n

Even if you’re a Tyson apologist who discounts his rape conviction, it’s hard to dismiss his road-rage assault in 1998, his drug and DUI case in 2006, his coke and alcohol abuse and numerous assault and sexual misconduct allegations, including another rape allegation in 2023.<\/p>\n

This asshat already has a statue outside Mulberry Street Pizzeria at Resorts World. Isn’t that enough cringeworthy athlete ass-kissery?<\/p>\n

Hey, far be it from us to yuck on the yums of others, but we’ve seen too much denial and legacy rehabilitation to not mention how awkward all of this is. Sadly, most people don’t seem to understand how awkward it is, or should be.<\/p>\n

The disturbing part isn’t that Mike Tyson has rehabilitated his image. It’s how enthusiastically everyone else volunteered to help.<\/p>\n

People seem quick to forgive and forget when it comes to making a buck, especially when it’s combined with hero worship.<\/p>\n

“Forgive and forget” is actually selective amnesia, mindless glorification and, worst of all, complicity.<\/p>\n
