He’s had outbursts onstage and gives a definite vibe of being completely over it.<\/p>\n There’s a big payday to be had by cashing in on one’s music and legacy, and it goes beyond cash. You can also have immortality.<\/p>\n Everybody describes these shows as featuring “holograms,” but they aren’t holograms.<\/p>\n They’re detailed, lifelike digital avatars that appear through a mix of animation, lighting, projection, video screens and theatrical wizardry. The Whitney Houston one was sort of creepy, but the ABBA version has been well-received.<\/p>\n It takes weeks to capture the artist’s performance for an avatar show. They dress in motion capture suits, surrounded by 160 cameras, which Elton John is going to absolutely hate.<\/p>\n The Sun claims John will record his performance at Pinewood Studios, Bucks, this autumn.<\/p>\n “Bucks” is short for Buckinghamshire, a county in southeast England, just northwest of London. It includes places like Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Amersham, Marlow and Buckingham. Milton Keynes is historically part of Buckinghamshire, though it is now administered separately. They don’t miss rehearsals or throw tantrums. They don’t become drug addicts. They don’t trash hotel rooms. They don’t demand to have their M&M’s peeled or impregnate groupies. Virtual performers don’t get sick. They don’t lose their voice. Looking at you, Wayne Newton.<\/p>\n Through technology, record labels and estates have a way to “extend an artist’s legacy.” Also known as keeping the cheddar flowing. Which may be a mixed metaphor, but please don’t be that person.<\/p>\n The mind reels at what an Elton John avatar show might be like. One of the biggest creative advantages of digital entertainment is the virtual performer doesn’t have to be limited to reality. You know, things like the passage of time or physics.<\/p>\n In avatar shows, artists can appear at any age. Costumes can change instantly. Performers can levitate, multiply or move between elaborate environments without waiting for a stagehand to roll a set into place.<\/p>\n A deceased singer can perform a duet with a living artist. A band or artist can be depicted in different periods of their career. A performer can interact with animation, archival footage and visual effects in ways that would be impossible in a conventional concert.<\/p>\n Many artists don’t get a say in what their hologram shows are like. You know, the dead ones.<\/p>\n Hard Rock Las Vegas has the luxury of asking Elton John what he thinks.<\/p>\n An Elton John show would be part tribute, part concert, part nostalgic throwback.<\/p>\n A show like this could bring in a new generation of fans, just as John’s collaboration with Dua Lipa did.
