We hear things. We share those things with you. That’s how this has worked for the past 12-plus years, and we’ll be damned if we’re changing things up now.<\/p>\n

Recently, we’ve heard some juicy early word about plans at Luxor. They would not typically be headline news, but it’s a slow news day, so hunker down for a dozen paragraphs of scoop MGM Resorts hasn’t confirmed yet.<\/p>\n

First, Luxor’s former buffet space (it closed March 30, 2026) will be turned into a bingo hall. We are not making this up. It gets better.<\/p>\n

If your world hasn’t been rocked, we’re here to share more Luxor plans!<\/p>\n

See? We’ve already used up four of our anticipated 12 paragraphs, so things are going swimmingly.<\/p>\n

Oh, before moving on, we should probably mention we’ve been told ALL of the buffets at MGM Resorts casinos in Las Vegas are expected to close by Q2 2027. The MGM Grand buffet closes at the end of May. The others are the Buffet at Excalibur, the Buffet at Bellagio and Wicked Spoon at Cosmopolitan (which is slated to close last). We should probably do a story about this, but most people don’t read this far, so it’ll be all new to them.<\/p>\n

That’s a little sad, but our other news makes us happy! Two MGM Resorts executives, CEO Bill Hornbuckle and high-ranking executive Mike Neubecker, have recently mentioned to employees that there are plans in the works for a new light show in the atrium of Luxor.<\/p>\n

The Luxor’s atrium light show is expected to debut in 2027, according to eyewitnesses. No other details were given, other than the fact the light show will involve a substantial investment.<\/p>\n

We were as surprised as you are that they’re going to invest in enhancements to Luxor, but given the dimming of the Luxor’s beam in recent years (to save costs), the old girl could use a little injection of spectacle. Lighting technology has come a long way, and if they do it right, projection mapping and other bells and whistles could make Luxor a draw for those who love free attractions.<\/p>\n

Many have noted Las Vegas has a spectacle problem. Free attractions have slowly gone away, like the volcano at Mirage, the pirate battle at TI and the “Show in the Sky” at Rio. Las Vegas has lost some of its former magic (no, sports aren’t magical), and eye candy could be the key to getting it back. The Sphere is packing them in, and The Strip will feature weekly fireworks displays<\/a> this year. Bless their hearts, they’re trying.<\/p>\n

You’ll know more when we do, but our sources are top notch and their accuracy rate has been off the charts.<\/p>\n

Luxor and its sister resort Excalibur have sort of fallen by the wayside in recent years (as casinos focus on higher-end travelers), so it would be awesome to see them given some love.
