See, a longtime comedy trope has faded into history, and we all need to keep the joke alive.<\/p>\n
Here’s a quick overview for our fellow youths.<\/p>\n
Several years ago, there was a war called World War II. (“II” is an old-timey way of writing “two.”) During World War II, France was defeated by Nazi Germany in about six weeks, otherwise known as “about the time it takes to bake a croissant.” Basically, the Nazis rolled through France like it had a VIP line pass. Following the invasion, something called Vichy France was set up to govern the unoccupied part of the country and collaborate with the Nazis. The optics weren’t great. All of it made for easy comedy fodder.<\/p>\n
Making fun of France for surrendering so quickly has drifted in and out of popularity, but now we’re all friends and you rarely hear this perspective today.<\/p>\n
Screw that.<\/p>\n
So, timeless gag out of the way, back to the perfunctory information about the nonstop flights blah blah.<\/p>\n
Here’s the blurb you’ve been waiting for breathlessly while you were forced to learn history: “The new route will operate three times weekly through October 24, 2026, offering travelers direct access between one of Europe’s most iconic capitals and one of the world’s premier tourism and business destinations. Operated on the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900, the service provides passengers with Air France’s latest onboard product, combining comfort, innovation, and French-inspired hospitality.”<\/p>\n
Yes, we are well aware “most iconic” is grammatically incorrect. Something is either iconic or it isn’t. We can’t fix everything.<\/p>\n
As for the “French-inspired hospitality,” good luck with that.<\/p>\n
Regular French people are awesome. But we’re talking about Paris here.<\/p>\n
Parisians are some of the rudest people we have ever interacted with, and we’ve had dinner with Criss Angel.<\/p>\n
This is not just our opinion. There’s a long-running comedy trope that Parisians, are rude, aloof or dismissive toward outsiders. It’s not just a stereotype, it’s a lifestyle.<\/p>\n
If you don’t speak French in Paris, they’ll literally pretend they don’t speak English just to show how much they appreciate your visit to their city.<\/p>\n
Well, that doesn’t work in reverse. If you’re French and visit Las Vegas, everyone is happy to speak English to you! We love tourists!<\/p>\n
The typical Air France flight between Las Vegas and Paris leaves France at 1:40 p.m. and arrives at 3:35 p.m. That’s right, the flight is just two hours! See, it’s not just the surrendering that’s fast in France!<\/p>\n
The flight from Las Vegas to France leaves at 5:50 p.m. and arrives in Paris at 1:05 p.m. the next day. The Vegas to France flight takes 19 hours because, honestly, why would anyone want to go back to Paris?<\/p>\n
One of the best parts of this new service is how clueless tourism officials are making crap up about it.<\/p>\n
Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) said, “This new route further strengthens our international reach, making it even easier for travelers from France and across Europe to experience the unmatched energy and excitement of Las Vegas. It reflects the shared global appeal that unites our two world-class destinations and underscores the strong demand we continue to see from international visitors.”<\/p>\n
This guy is in charge of Las Vegas tourism and actually said these flights “underscore the strong demand we continue to see from international visitors.” Presumably, he said it with a straight face.<\/p>\n
This calls for the SpongeBob SquarePants font: “uNdERScOre tHe StRoNg DeMaND wE CoNtInUe TO SeE fRoM iNtErNaTiOnAl ViSiToRs.”<\/p>\n
The reality: International visitation has fallen off a cliff due to everyone hating us.<\/p>\n
They probably can’t put that in a news release, but it’s the truth.<\/p>\n
In 2025, international visitation fell about 14% year-over-year. Canadian visitation alone has dropped as much as 50% in certain months.<\/p>\n
That’s due to the boneheadery of the current U.S. administration’s policies.<\/p>\n
Nobody’s putting that in a news release because their city will be removed from every map in America by executive order and nobody wants that.<\/p>\n
Anyway, the new nonstop flights should make it easy for French persons to visit Las Vegas should they choose to do so.<\/p>\n
This should be a real hoot for service workers, as tipping isn’t customary in France.<\/p>\n
On the bright side, these flights will offer a convenient way for Las Vegas locals to visit France.<\/p>\n
Our top tip: In our experience, while French food is terrible, France has some of the best Italian food in Europe.<\/p>\n
Another top tip: Don’t be surprised to discover that the national pastime of France is chain smoking.<\/p>\n
