Live poker remains a largely male pursuit. Which is why it’s a big deal a woman has made it to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event final table. It’s the first time in 30 years.<\/p>\n

The fact we waited until the second paragraph to mention her name is indicative of just how entrenched the patriarchy is.<\/p>\n

That’s what’s known as “gaslighting.” Her name is Leonore “Leo” Margets.<\/p>\n

Female participation in the World Series of Poker traditionally hovers somewhere between 3% and 5%, on the generous side.<\/p>\n

If you’re one of the male players who made it to this year’s final table, sorry. Margets is going to get all the attention, win or lose.<\/p>\n

Here’s the complete list of those who have made it to the final table: John Wasnock, Michael Mizrachi, Braxton Dunaway, Kenny Hallaert, Leonore Margets, Luka Bojovic, Adam Hendrix, Daehyung Lee and Jarod Minghini.<\/p>\n

While poker is a lot about skill, it’s also a lot about luck, which is why you don’t recognize any of those names.<\/p>\n

The final table of the 2025 World Series of Poker happens July 15-16 in the Events Center at Horseshoe. All WSOP events happen at Horseshoe and Paris on the Las Vegas Strip. If you went to the Rio to enter, sorry, it moved in 2022.<\/p>\n

The winner gets $10 million and hopefully new shorts.<\/p>\n

Seriously, guys, you know you’re going to have your photo taken. Even we put on pants for photo ops.<\/p>\n

And no hats indoors. This isn’t Branson.<\/p>\n

And mask guy, what is your deal? No masks or other facial covering should be allowed in poker tournaments.<\/p>\n

Anyway, along with the big prize, the winner will also receive the coveted WSOP bracelet. In our recent story about the 2025 WSOP bracelet<\/a>, we mentioned the issue of women not being a part of the experience and asked A.I. to create a version that would inspire more women to take part in the WSOP.<\/p>\n

Leonore Margets, who is called “Leo,” because, again, the patriarchy, is a professional poker player from Barcelona, Spain.<\/p>\n

She’s the second woman in WSOP history to play at the WSOP Main Event final table. Barbara Enright finished in fifth place in 1995.<\/p>\n

No matter what Margets does in the final table, she’ll get at least $1 million.<\/p>\n

Why don’t more women compete in the World Series of Poker (beyond the patriarchy, obviously)? The answer is simple: Would you want to spend endless hours and days around poker players?<\/p>\n
