Luxor is closing its buffet (technically “The Buffet at Luxor”), following a trend that accelerated following the pandemic.<\/p>\n

This story was first reported by Corey Levitan, right here at Casino.org<\/a>, which we’re really irritated by, but we’re trying to get past it.<\/p>\n

We since confirmed the closure through official sources, so it’s a done deal. The Luxor buffet closes on March 30, 2025.<\/p>\n

Casinos tend to hate buffets, as they’re a holdover from a time when cheap buffets were used to entice gamblers to their establishments. In recent years, though, loss leaders have fallen out of favor.<\/p>\n

Most casino buffets are big money losers. Before closing virtually all its buffets, Caesars Entertainment said its buffets lost an average of $3 million a year. Each. Individually. That math isn’t mathing.<\/p>\n

So, when COVID hit, casinos saw it as an opportunity to lose buffets and bolster their bottom lines.<\/p>\n

Luxor’s buffet survived the pandemic, reopening September 1, 2021 after a temporary closure.<\/p>\n

Luxor has a three-star rating on Yelp<\/a>, so nothing to write home about. In related news, virtually nobody writes home anymore.<\/p>\n

There’s no word yet about what will replace The Buffet a Luxor, but we’ll be damned if Levitan is going to get that story first.<\/p>\n

Luxor already has a food court, so, your guess is as good as ours at this point.<\/p>\n

As always, our heart goes out to the soon-to-be-displaced employees at the Luxor buffet.<\/p>\n
