Beautiful resort, messy story.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nNo official announcement has been made about Jim Murren taking the reins at Resorts World, but when has that ever stopped us from scooping the old-timey media on the biggest stories in Las Vegas? We reached out to Resorts World, but haven’t heard back yet.<\/p>\n
Murren most recently has been CEO and Executive Chairman of Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection. He’s also Chairman of General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority, whatever that might be, and Co-Chairman Cirque du Soleil. The Cirque thing is very useful in casino management because you deal with a lot of clowns.<\/p>\n
Whatever one might think of Jim Murren, he has a clean record and is relatively well-regarded in the casino industry. That was not the case with the former CEO of Resorts World, Scott Sibella.<\/p>\n
Sibella got the boot after he “violated company policies and the terms of his employment.” Basically, he turned a blind eye to money laundering.<\/p>\n
Sibella’s temporary stand-in has been Resorts World’s Chief Financial Officer, Peter LaVoie.<\/p>\n
Murren has reportedly been meeting with Resorts World staff for the last four days, and we trust he hasn’t just been there to enjoy the resort’s amenities.<\/p>\nIf anyone can give the appearance of fixing Resorts World, it’s Jim Murren.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAmong Jim Murren’s most impressive accomplishments was when he fixed COVID as chair of the Nevada COVID-19 Response, Relief and Recovery Task Force.<\/p>\n
He also invented paid parking.<\/p>\n
If Murren takes over at Resorts World as rumored, he’s taking on an undeniable challenge. He’s going to have to clean up a lot of handshake deals inside the resort, get rid of the folks Sibella took the fall for and figure out how to right the resort’s financial ship. No pressure.<\/p>\n
