What started out as a temporary hiatus for the “Sirens of TI” show at Treasure Island has turned into a permanent closure.<\/p>\n

The popular free show, featuring hotties spewing some of the worst dialogue since “Battlefield Earth,” closed Oct. 21<\/a>, presumably because of construction taking place at Treasure Island. The show was supposed to re-open Dec. 25, 2013, but that plan has now been scuttled.<\/p>\n

When we heard this show was closing permanently, we were torn.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

“Sirens of TI” was the latest iteration of the free pirate attraction which opened as the “Battle of Buccaneer Bay” on Oct. 27, 1993.<\/p>\n

Treasure Island is in the midst of a major development project<\/a> which will add a three-story shopping complex at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road. The addition of the mall will have a significant impact on the size of the hotel’s lagoon area.<\/p>\n

Apparently, there wasn’t enough room for a 46,000-square-foot mall and an expensive show that no longer served the purpose for which it was intended, to draw visitors into the hotel’s casino.<\/p>\n

Demand for sexy pirates has all but dried up in Las Vegas.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Treasure Island’s new mall will have restaurants, a CVS pharmacy, retail shops and a car showroom. Which leaves us with the feeling “Sirens of TI” might have been dumb, but at least it wasn’t boring.<\/p>\n

If there’s one thing missing in Las Vegas, it’s the opportunity to shop. That is, if you exclude the Fashion Show Mall across the street from TI’s new mall, and the nearby Grand Canal Shops at Venetian and the upscale shops at Wynn.<\/p>\n

You should probably also exclude The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Mandalay Place at Mandalay Bay, the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, the Las Vegas Premium Outlets<\/a> stores and Town Square mall at the south end of The Strip. Oh, and the Crystals shopping center at CityCenter.<\/p>\n

You’ll also want to exclude the new shopping expansion coming to the Tropicana, as well as the new Park shopping district at Monte Carlo and New York-New York<\/a>, the new shopping and dining district called The Linq, and the Grand Bazaar Shops<\/a> planned for Bally’s.<\/p>\n

But other than all those, there’s definitely a need for more shopping on The Strip. Or maybe we should stop calling it “The Strip” and start referring to it as “The Strip Mall.”<\/p>\n

So, after a decade, we bid farewell to one of the entries on just about everyone’s list of “Best Free Things to Do in Las Vegas.”<\/p>\n

Thanks to our pal Norm Clarke at the Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/a> for sharing this news and sort of bumming us out. Let’s just say we didn’t see the “Sirens of TI” show for the dialogue.<\/p>\n

It appears we’ll have to get used to the fact the Las Vegas Strip is becoming less about T&A and more about H&M. Deep sigh.<\/p>\n
