It cost about $10 million to build the 1.14-mile demonstration tunnel. No, that&#8217;s not a typo. Ten million. In another case, it will take\u00a0people to an airport (O&#8217;Hare in Chicago).<\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t take a bajillionaire genius to connect the dots.<\/p>\n<p>That sound you hear is heads exploding at the Las Vegas Monorail and Nevada\u00a0Taxicab Authority.<\/p>\n<p>As you might suspect, it&#8217;s no coincidence this rumor has surfaced as Vegas\u00a0looks ahead to the completion of the new Raiders stadium in 2020. Concerns\u00a0about snarled traffic and insufficient parking have plagued the Raiders\u00a0stadium from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>The Elon Musk rumor also comes on the heels of ongoing delays related to a\u00a0monorail extension (to Mandalay Bay) for which $110 million in financing is\u00a0likely to never materialize.<\/p>\n<p>The Las Vegas Monorail has been a financial disappointment from day one, and the failure of the monorail to connect to the airport leaves it vulnerable to a bigger, better (and less expensive) idea stealing the limelight.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Las Vegas is making a huge investment in convention business\u00a0with its $935 million expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The test tunnel in L.A. cost $10 million per mile.<\/p>\n<p>Some current tunnel projects cost as much as $1 billion per mile.<\/p>\n<p>How does The Boring Company raise funds? In the most entertaining ways\u00a0possible. Las Vegas wasn&#8217;t built by detractors, it was built by the people who ignored the detractors.
