Sites for Wyoming bettors to avoid

We strongly recommend that the only websites you use for online sports betting in Wyoming are those that have been licensed to operate in the state. There are risks associated with wagering at unlicensed sportsbooks. Many of the sites that appear on our list of sites to avoid have been reported by visitors who have encountered issues, including false advertising and payout problems.

Top online sportsbooks in Wyoming

Given that there are no commercial casinos in Wyoming, the focus is mainly on sports betting. One stipulation of the bill that saw sports betting legalized was that any applicant for a license must have a presence in at least three other states. That has ensured a high caliber of sportsbooks in Wyoming.

BetMGM

BetMGM

BetMGM was one of the first brands to begin offering online sports betting in Wyoming when it launched on September 1 2021. Sports bettors have since been treated to an exceptional online wagering experience. BetMGM is one of the very best operators in this sector, with a sportsbook that has been improved through its work in various states.

The brand is a combination of casino giant MGM Resorts International and the UK-based Entain brand, which embraces several big names in sports betting. The result is a sportsbook that delivers a wide range of markets and bonuses and an outstanding user experience on desktops or mobile devices.

Among the bonuses available is a welcome offer of a $1,000 bonus bet, while BetMGM is also well known for the quality of its rewards scheme.

DraftKings

DraftKings

DraftKings was the other company that launched alongside BetMGM on the first possible day following the legalization of Wyoming sports betting.

It already had a high profile in the state thanks to its status as one of the leading providers of Daily Fantasy Sports games. DraftKings has evolved with impressive speed to become one of the most highly regarded sportsbooks in the many states where it’s now live.

New customers can take advantage of a dual welcome offer that comprises a no-deposit bonus of $50 and a deposit match that can ultimately be worth up to $1,000. There are numerous ongoing promotional offers to be enjoyed too, as well as regular features such as profit boosts.

DraftKings is also respected for innovations such as the high level of personalization bettors are offered when they access the site or app, based on their wagering history.

FanDuel

FanDuel

FanDuel became the third Wyoming sports betting operation to go live when it opened its virtual doors to customers in the Equality State in March 2022.

Much like its old rival DraftKings, FanDuel made its name as a leading supplier of Daily Fantasy Sports games. Partly assisted by its 2018 acquisition of a majority share in Flutter Entertainment (the owner of several leading UK and Irish sports betting brands) it quickly developed an outstanding sportsbook that is hugely successful in the many states where it’s now live.

FanDuel is now known and respected for the broad choice of markets and sports on offer, as well as its focus on live betting and streaming, plus its development of innovative features such as same-game parlays. Accomplished and novice bettors alike appreciate the quality of the wagering experience delivered by FanDuel’s desktop and mobile platforms.

Popular sports to bet on in Wyoming

Wyoming is one of the many states without a big four team. However, there are plenty of sides not too far away that attract support and investment from sports fans in the Equality State.

Football

Football

The NFL is the biggest sporting league in the USA, as well as the richest in the world. People across the nation root for their favorite team – and the level of betting on the sport is unrivalled.

Sportsbooks notice a sizeable jump in handle when big matches are played during the NFL season, while the Super Bowl is reckoned to be the largest annual sports betting event in the world.

Many football fans in Wyoming pull for the Denver Broncos, based in neighboring Colorado, but you will also find supporters of teams further afield living here.

Baseball

Baseball

With minor league teams such as the Cheyenne Grizzlies providing a local focus, baseball is a popular sport in Wyoming. The nearest Major League franchise, the Colorado Rockies, also picks up a significant level of support from across the border.

Baseball generally enjoys a high profile and generates a solid degree of wagering interest. It is helped by the length of its regular season, the sheer number of games that take place, and the enduring love that baseball fans have for the World Series. The sport is also an ideal vehicle for in-play betting.

Basketball

Basketball

The NBA entertains and enthralls fans across the USA throughout its regular season all the way to the NBA finals. Basketball, with its high scoring and frequent breaks in play, is a big hit with advocates of in-play betting too.

With no NBA franchise located in Wyoming, fans look to nearby states for their top-level hoops fix. Many people pull for the Denver Nuggets, but significant numbers also throw their support behind the Utah Jazz. The Wyoming Cowboys of the University of Wyoming also play college basketball at a high level, which gives the team a good profile across the state.

Hockey

Hockey

Hockey is a sport that has grown its profile in recent decades and now commands a high level of attention through the regular season and up to the Stanley Cup finals. Wyoming hockey fans do not have to look too far for a team to support, with the Colorado Avalanche located across the southern border.

Leading sports betting operators offer the opportunity to wager on the best European leagues. Hockey, though relatively low scoring, features plenty of chances to place bets on props and in-play markets.

Horse Racing

Horse Racing

Wyoming is a state that loves its horse racing action. There are three tracks hosting live races in the state: Wyoming Downs, Sweetwater Downs and Energy Downs. Between them, they hosted 50 live dates in 2021 – the most races the state had seen for many years.

As well as 12 off-track betting operators, specialist advance deposit wagering websites such as BetAmerica and TwinSpires are available to racing fans in Wyoming.

Historic horse racing machines – which look very much like slots – are also legal in Wyoming. You can bet on these, as on all forms of gambling here, from the age of 18.

Fantasy Sports

Fantasy Sports

Daily Fantasy Sports have never been legalized in Wyoming. However, they have never been expressly forbidden either. As a result, leading DFS operators including FanDuel and DraftKings offer games to players in the Equality State with no fear of prosecution.

DFS games are popular wherever they are played. They enable you to select a side from all the players in action across a game day in a major sport. You score points based on your selections’ performances, and if they’re all MVP for the day you will be in line for a substantial prize.

Wyoming sports betting facts

Despite its small population, and the fact that it’s relatively new to sports betting, Wyoming has delivered some impressive numbers so far. With more sportsbooks set to launch soon, it seems certain that the trend will continue upwards.

Bet types and markets

When it comes to having plenty of choices in sports betting, Wyoming players are extremely well served. The quality of the sportsbooks that have opened here is so high that you should always find the bet types and markets that most appeal to you.

The simplest wager possible to place. You make a choice as to which player or team will win a particular sports event. Then you place a single stake on that single outcome. You will know the moment you put down your stake exactly how much you are going to pick up should your selection be correct.

Bonuses and promotions

The competition between sportsbooks for customers is always intense. One manifestation of that rivalry is the range of bonuses used to lure new players – and encourage them to stay loyal. You should expect a generous bonus in return for signing up for an account, and plenty more offers in the weeks and months ahead.

Bonus Bonus Description
Welcome bonus
In return for signing up as a customer, you should be rewarded with a substantial welcome bonus. There are several types of introductory offers, so make sure you choose one that suits you – and check the terms so that you get the maximum benefit.
No-deposit bonus
So keen are operators to encourage you to join them that you may receive a bonus simply for signing up. Even before you place a single cent in your account, you could find up to $50 in there to get you going.
Bonus bets
Also known as a "risk-free bet" - many sportsbooks offer this simple but effective initial offer. Your first bet – which could be $1,000 or even more – is awarded as a bonus offer. If your selection wins, you get your return; if it loses, you get your stake back.
Cashback
There are several ways to get cash back from a sportsbook. If you have parlay insurance, for instance, your stake is refunded if just one leg lets you down. You should also receive a return if an event is declared void.
Enhanced odds
Odds boosts are an extremely common promotion. Some operators deliver them on a daily basis, and may have a section on their site dedicated to boosts. It’s a great way to get extra value in return for your stake.
Loyalty offers
It is reassuring if your loyalty to a particular sportsbook is appreciated. This can take the form of an invitation to join a rewards program or even a VIP scheme. Each can trigger bonus play, exclusive offers and even free gifts.

Legal sports betting in Wyoming

There was some surprise when, having seemed indifferent to the idea of sports betting, Wyoming moved swiftly to legalize the activity in March 2021.

Until that moment, the prospects had appeared faint. A 2020 bill that would have legalized the activity petered out, and even when the bill HB 133 came to the state House the following March, its defeat there felt inevitable. It was duly voted down.

However, the following day the House reconsidered and passed it. From there, it whisked through the Senate and was signed into law by Governor Mark Gordon in time for the legal Wyoming sports betting market to launch in September 2021.

One of the key stipulations of the bill was that any operator granted a license had to be active in at least three states already, which ensured a certain level of experience and expertise. DraftKings and BetMGM went live on day one, and were followed a few months later by FanDuel.

PointsBet, Barstool and Caesars, all well-known sportsbooks, are expected to swell the ranks of those offering online sports betting in Wyoming.

What is the legal sports betting age in Wyoming?

You are allowed to place a sports bet in Wyoming from the age of 18 onwards. This applies to all forms of gambling, including casinos and horse racing betting.

Are Wyoming sports betting winnings taxable?

All winnings generated through online sports betting in Wyoming are treated as taxable income by the IRS. You should expect a sportsbook to hold back a quarter of any wins to go towards your federal tax bill.

This is why we recommend that you keep track of your wins and losses to ensure the IRS is presented with an accurate record for your annual return. And do not forget that you will most certainly be liable for a smaller amount of state tax on your winnings too.

Is all sports betting legal in Wyoming?

Unlike some other states, there are no restrictions on wagering on teams based in Wyoming. You are free to wager on the University of Wyoming Cowboys when they ride into action.

However, there are some events that are out of bounds. Sportsbooks are not allowed to offer markets on popular culture ceremonies such as the Academy Awards or reality TV shows. And, in common with sportsbooks across the land, taking bets on local or national elections is strictly forbidden.
