What Are the Bookies Offering?

Royal weddings are now big business for bookies around the world. UK bookies generated over $1.5 million in placed bets for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton back in 2011. That number is expected to be even higher for this ceremony.

The specials markets have proved to be the most popular with punters in the past. Odds being offered on certain outcomes happening on the day and over the ensuing years have captured the imagination of the person in the street.

This year, bookies are making more markets available than ever before. Odds on the artist of the first dance chosen by the couple are attracting attention with Whitney Houston proving a firm favorite at 1.40. Elton John at 3.00, Ed Sheeran at 4.00, and Adele at 9.00 are other potential candidates. Bob Marley at 11.00 is there for a more outlandish choice.

The manufacturer of the bride’s arrival vehicle is drawing a lot of bets. The classic Rolls-Royce is leading the way at the moment at 1.80 but Bentley at 2.20, and Aston Martin at 9.00 is also in contention.

A popular market for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding was the colour of the Queen’s hat. It might not be her big day but Her Majesty is certain to steal proceedings with her fashion choice. Green is the favorite color right now at 2.00. However, blue at 4.00, pink at 6.00, yellow at 6.00, and purple at 7.00 are also strong options.

Future events relating to the couple’s marriage are also providing a number of markets. The name of the couple’s first child is already being discussed with Alice, Arthur, Harry, and Henry early favorites at a price of 11.00.

What year the couple’s first baby will arrive in is also being made available to bettors. 2019 is the clear favorite at odds of 1.33 but punters can also opt for 2020 or later at 3.00 or even 2018 at 67.00. It won’t be long before they’re taking odds on baby names!

How Much Will It Cost?

At, we developed our Las Vegas calculator to allow you to work out the cost of a night out in Sin City. It got us thinking how much the total cost of the Royal Wedding will be after all is said and done?

It was estimated that the entire cost of the wedding will work out at approximately £32 million ($43 million). If you consider how much the cost of hiring the wedding venue (considering the Royal Family own Windsor Castle), flowers, cake, wedding dress, and all the other paraphernalia involved in making the special day come to life… we have to ask ourselves… how much did Prince Harry spend on his stag do?!

Will It Work?

The couple have already courted controversy. Prince Harry had certain sectors of the media up in arms over the prospect of marrying an American girl. Add in the fact that Meghan Markle is also a divorcee. After all, that didn’t work out so well for the Royal Family when it last happened with Prince Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.

Unfortunately, in this day and age there remains a negative vibe surrounding the wedding. The doomsayers have already piped up and stated that the wedding is destined to end in failure even before it has begun.

Psychic Lindsay Edwards claimed the couple would split before the wedding day arrived. OK, so there’s still the potential for that to happen before the big day arrives.

Professor Nicholas Wolfinger suggested that the age at which the couple are getting married signals that they are at greater risk of ending their marriage in divorce due to statistical analysis of couples in a similar situation. Not entirely sure every couple used in the analysis was from a royal family though!

A recent survey showed that the average length of a marriage in the UK lasts 11.3 years. Perhaps even more disconcertingly, one in three marriages end in divorce. Out of that figure, 19% of women will be divorcing for the second time. Maybe the US heritage of Markle will deliver more hope? Unfortunately not. The average American marriage lasts just 8 years!

One of the most worrying statistics over recent times is the fact that up to 20% of divorce proceedings have stated a reference to gambling as the reason for the marriage breaking down. Meghan will have to keep a close eye on Prince Harry with his family’s close affiliation to horse racing!

Whatever the outcome of the marriage, it is certain to be an unforgettable day for fans of the Royal Family. We here at would like to wish the happy couple all the best for their new life together! Right, now where’s the best online bookmaker to place a bet on who will attend the ceremony?
