The Best Annual Award Shows in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is well known as a home for conventions and expos, but it’s also an ideal place for annual award shows. With excellent theaters to host the events in, plus plenty of accommodation, it’s no surprise that so many companies flock to Sin City to celebrate every year.

Billboard Music Awards
Billboard is a publication and popularity chart for the music business. Held every year in May in Las Vegas, the Billboard Music Awards recognizes the top musicians of the year. Unlike the Grammy Awards, which bases nominations and wins on votes from a panel of experts, the Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on album and digital songs sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring, and social engagement.
The event is typically held in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, although it has also taken place in the T-Mobile Arena and the Hard Rock Hotel. Awards are given out in over 50 categories, and it’s generally a star-studded event, filled with all the glitz and glamour that you’d expect.
When you think of the deserts of Nevada, you might not usually think of ice hockey. But in fact, the NHL has held their annual award show in Las Vegas for 10 years now, and is poised to continue doing so for at least the coming three years. While the actual venues have ranged from the Palms to the Encore at Wynn to the MGM Grand to The Joint and T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas has consistently been home to this event.
In previous years, it was combined with the NHL Expansion Draft, or the opening games of the season. Trophies given out include the Hart Memorial for the player that’s most valuable to his team, as well as the Vezina trophy for the league’s top goaltender. Rookies can strive for the Calder Memorial trophy while general managers can also win a prestigious award at the event.
Academy of Country Music Awards
For one week out of the year, Las Vegas goes a little bit country wild. Not only does the city play host to the award show for the Academy of Country Music, all the performers descend on the city and make the most of the opportunity to play shows and entertain the masses. Despite concerns that following the mass shooting at a country music performance the organization might move the event to another city, they returned to Las Vegas and plan to continue to make Vegas their award show home.
This award show not only highlights the best of country music, but also usually brings in some pop music icons to round out the acts and attract new viewers. Much like the Grammys or other musical award shows, the academy determines which songs and performers win the coveted awards and trophies.
London International Awards
Hosted by the Encore by Wynn, the London International Awards (LIA) recognize excellence in advertising across a range of media. The show seeks to honor pioneers in the fields of branded entertainment, design, production, digital media, music and sound. It was the first international advertising award of its kind to recognize all media and methods from around the world, judged by a diverse and global jury.
Of course, the judging is a big deal, which is why the panel of judges spend a week in Las Vegas, reviewing all the materials and determining which pieces of media deserve the top awards. Wynn has been the host for several years running, and it appears to be an ideal home for these awards.
Latin Grammy Awards
Music awards are a big deal, and one of the most popular ones to watch is the Latin Grammys. For over 10 years, they’ve made Las Vegas home for the award ceremony, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, MGM Grand Garden Arena and the T-Mobile Arena. No matter where it takes place, it’s a night filled with some awesome performances by the top artists out of Latin America.
While many fans wish that sales or social media followers would determine winners in all categories, the academy insists on going beyond commercial patterns. Instead, they like to recognize those with commercial success, as well as those that make music that has meaning. Whether it’s based on freshness, lyrics or orchestration, the Latin Grammys bring a certain amount of flair to Vegas, and keep everyone on their toes… while you Samba to the best beats you can find.
Plenty of organizations make Las Vegas a home for award shows. Vegas has the resources to make any award show a success. But one award show was made for Las Vegas. You simply couldn’t imagine it anywhere else. Really, where else would you have an award show for adult film, but in Sin City?
Every year, performers, starlets, producers, directors, and die-hard fans depend on Las Vegas to give awards for top achievements in adult film. Also called the Oscars of Porn, the AVN Awards give out top awards across a range of categories.
But it’s not a sexual free for all. In fact, Ron Jeremy was banned from the event following his comments about groping women, and there’s increasingly a shift towards recognizing cam girls and amateurs with loyal followings online.
As the adult film industry has changed in recent years, the AVN Awards are attempting to follow those new trends to stay relevant to fans. Las Vegas is still an ideal place for this, with ample space and capacity for all the performers to show off their expertise and interact with fans who travel from around the world to cheer them on for winning top honors.
