One DirectionThe huge boy band pop sensation One Direction may have received a “dressing down” from their music management team after an out-of-control first-time gambling binge in Las Vegas recently, but the casino properties that allowed them to play may end up in even more hot water. The minimum legal age to play in any casino in Las Vegas is 21, but only one of the five band members have reached that age yet, based on their publicity materials.

“Seemed Like It Was a Good Idea at the Time”

Apparently the five-member hit factory was blowing off steam in Sin City following a long road tour, and while band member Niall Horan, age 19, told We Love Pop Magazine  recently that he “won 100 pounds…then I stopped,” he added that his band mates had not shown quite as much discipline and “let’s just say it got ugly and a lot of money was lost,” said Horan.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha Gonna Do

While the boys’ management team reportedly told the young ‘uns off in no uncertain terms, it remains to be seen what the penalties will be for the casinos, (as yet unnamed), that allowed them to play underage.  As a precedent, Caesars Entertainment Corp. was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine to Nevada gaming regulators in July 2012 following charges against them for allowing gambling by various underage players between 2010 and May 2012.  According to those charges, the company had allowed customers ranging in age from 17 to 20 to play table games at several of their properties, including Harrahs, Rio, Flamingo and Caesars Palace, despite having been presented with IDs that clearly showed the gamblers were under the legal playing age. While it was a significant fine by casino standards, the Nevada Gaming Commission and Nevada Gaming Control Board do not take such matters lightly.  Not only that, but while seldom prosecuted, technically players who try to pawn themselves off as 21 and up while underage are committing a misdemeanor in Las Vegas, and could face potential charges.

The other One Direction band members are Harry Styles,19; Louis Tomlinson, 21, Liam Payne, 19 and Zayn Malik, 20.  The band achieved worldwide success following their third place finish on the British television singing competition The  X Factor in 2010.
