Online Craps Strategy
Craps is not, technically speaking, a skill game. The dice roll is totally random and no matter what you do, you cannot gain control over this process. The outcome of any given wager is left completely to fate. Having said that, you can make some smart decisions that (at the very least) will improve your chances. If nothing else, a certain style of play may give you a chance to play for a longer period of time with the same bankroll. So, if you would like to learn the general strategy for playing craps, keep reading.
Pay Attention To Your Bets
Since we cannot change what the dice will read, we have to shift our focus to the one part of the game where we have the most control: the betting layout. With so many options to choose from, you may be tempted to take each kind of bet for a test drive – don’t do this! Instead, use your head and play only the wagers with the lowest house edges. These are the Pass Line Bet, the Don’t Pass Line Bet, the Come Bet, and the Don’t Come Bet. These have a 1.40% - 1.41% house edge and they are still exciting to play. The complete list of craps bets goes beyond the scope of this article, but suffice it to say that you could go a lifetime without playing anything other than these four core wagers, and you would be better off for it.
Technically, the Don’t Pass Line Bet and the Don’t Come Bet have a house edge that is 0.01% lower than the others. If you are looking purely at the numbers, these are absolutely the best wagers in the game. However, if you are playing in a land casino, these bets will often pit you against the other players at the table. With such a superstitious crowd, don’t be surprised if your fellow players decide that you are a jerk for causing their bad luck. Online, however, put your wagers on the Don’t Pass Line, and don’t even think twice about it. Regardless of which of these bets you choose, each of your bets will likely remain on the table for multiple dice rolls, which means you get even more bang for your buck in terms of entertainment.
Avoid Sucker Bets
Every casino game has sucker bets and craps is no exception. These are wagers that have massive payouts but provide the house with equally imposing house edges. In craps, these are the One Roll Bets. These are wagers made on the outcome of the very next dice roll. Some numbers are less likely to appear than others and are obviously more lucrative. For example, betting on 2 is potentially worth a 30:1 payout! The only catch is that One Roll bets can have house edges as high at 16%! That means that the casino’s advantage is over ten times greater on One Roll bets than it is on the safer Pass Line and Come wagers.
