Online Craps Rules
Craps is possibly the quintessential casino game; the image of dice flying across the table with a dozen cheering players is one of the most iconic representations of casino gambling. Sadly, many casino players shy away and resort to simpler games like roulette. Don’t worry though, craps can be reduced to a brief set of rules that will help you get started today. We will talk about some of the best bets in the game and how you can use them to play craps like a pro. Read on to learn everything you need to know.
Craps is based on the rolling of two dice. Players at the table make wagers about the result of this roll. Some of these wagers are like roulette bets – they either win or lose based on the next roll of the dice. The most common bets, however, follow the game through a cycle. This may only take a couple of rolls, but it may also be a relatively long process. Luckily for us, the two most common bets are also the most instructive when it comes to fully understanding craps.
Pass or Don’t Pass
The Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line wagers are the primary craps bets (they pay 1:1) and they are polar opposites of each other. You can play either one, but it is often thought to be in bad taste to play the Don’t Pass Line bet. Wait until the start of a new round and make your choice by putting your bet on the clearly marked lines. Once all bets are in, the shooter (the player who is rolling the dice) will send the dice sailing down the table.
This first roll of the game is known as the come out roll and it sets up the entire round. If the sum of the dice is a two, a three, or a twelve (a.k.a. rolling craps) then the round is over – Pass Line bets lose and Don’t Pass Line bets win. If a seven or eleven is rolled (a.k.a. a natural), then the round is also over, but Pass Line bettors win and Don’t Pass Line bettors lose. If any other number is rolled, though, such as a four, five, six, eight, nine, or ten, that that number becomes the “point” for the remainder of the round.
Hit the Point or “Seven Out”
If a point is determined, then the same shooter continues to roll the dice until they either hit the point, or a seven. They may need many spins to accomplish this, but you don’t need to make any more wagers until they conclude the round. If the shooter re-rolls the point, then all of the Pass Line wagers win and the Don’t Pass Line wagers lose. Hitting a seven (a.k.a. sevening out) results in a loss for the Pass Line bets but a win for bets on the Don’t Pass Line. No matter what happens, at the end of the round, the croupier will award the winners and collect the losing bets. At this point, you can make another bet and repeat the same process.
